Venue bringing taste of Portugal to Eat Local competition This is Scunthorpe --

A TASTE of Portugal is being offered by one of the restaurants in the running for the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Eat Local awards.

The Black Bull, on Wrawby Street, Brigg, is set to hold its host night as part of the competition on Thursday, June 27.

Dishes on offer will include traditional piri piri chicken and Portuguese steak.

Eat Local has replaced our Restaurant of the Year award.

It is your chance to help your favourite venue take the crown as the region's best restaurant.

The Black Bull is owned by Richard and Amber Smith and Richard said customers could expect a great meal on the host night. He said: "Both myself and Amber lived in Portugal for six years, so we know the cuisine.

"It will be traditional Portuguese cuisine and we are hoping to have some Portuguese music."

Mr Smith said the restaurant was the only one of its kind in the town.

And he said he hoped to increase trade further by winning the Eat Local award. He said: "It will hopefully mean more business.

"We have only ventured into the evening market over the past year, so this would boost trade and make people aware that we are here.

"I think I am more confident of winning the more it goes on.

"We have already got 24 booked in for the night and it is going well."

The host night will run from 6pm to 9pm and will include three courses for £15 per person.

Booking is essential on 01652 652153.

*HOW YOU CAN PICK A WINNER*

This venue is one of several restaurants vying to become the Eat Local 2013 winner.

Restaurants across the region are holding host nights throughout June to showcase their food and service.

Customers will be able to score the restaurants on the night and the top three will advance into the final.

Our panel of judges will then visit the finalists and determine the overall winner.

As well as the title of Eat Local champion, the winning restaurant will receive a trophy, certificate, banner and full-page profile.

A separate award will also be given out, based on a public vote.

For this prize, each restaurant taking part has been given a unique text number, which our readers can use to vote whenever they visit.

Voting for this award will run until Thursday, June 27 and the winner will be announced alongside the judges' choice champion in the Scunthorpe Telegraph on Thursday, July 4. Reported by This is 5 hours ago.
