This is Leicestershire --

Three hospital restaurants are to undergo a £1million makeover.

The menus will also be changing to provide a greater choice for patients, visitors and staff.

The revamp will begin next Monday and is expected to take about eight weeks to complete.

The modernisation at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General and Glenfield Hospitals is being carried out by Interserve, the private company which won a £300 million contract to run catering, cleaning, maintenance and security services in more than 550 NHS buildings in the county from March 1.

The restaurants will reopen as LEat Street.

Each will offer a range of foods including soups and salads, traditional British food and Asian-inspired dishes.

Maria Kitching, director of transformation for Interserve, said: "The feedback we have received from patients, visitors and staff has ensured that the new restaurants will offer the right mix of quality produce and good service.

"In particular, we recognise that visiting a hospital can often be a stressful process, so this investment is intended to make the restaurants as welcoming as possible.

"For instance, we are introducing a family area and children's menu at the Leicester Royal Infirmary restaurant."

Parts of the restaurants will be closed during refurbishment.

Ms Kitching said: "We apologise for any disruption, but anticipate we will only need to reduce the selection of food we can offer for a short period. The restaurants will be of real benefit and we hope staff and visitors will see the disruption is worth it in the long term." Reported by This is 6 hours ago.
