'Chef of the Century' dies of pancreatic cancer

One of the world's most renowned and acclaimed chefs, Joel Robuchon, died in Switzerland. He was 73. Robuchon, who was once honored as the "Chef of the Century", died of pancreatic cancer that he had been fighting for a whole year after surgery. Robuchon has changed the code of haute cuisine by creating a network of "Atelier" restaurants - "down-to-earth" restaurants with a friendly atmosphere. The food served in his restaurants is known for its high quality and exquisite taste, but it has a much lower price tag owing to the absence of additional ceremonies that are commonly used in haute cuisine. Robuchon was a champion of healthy cuisine. One of his best recipes is mashed potatoes of unique creamy texture. Joel Robuchon was to become a priest, but at age 29 he became the chef of a Parisian restaurant. His first restaurant earned three Michelin stars at once making him the only chef who could achieve such an accomplishment. Subsequently, Frenchman's restaurants had received a total of 32 Michelin stars, setting an absolute record. In 1989, Gault Millau awarded Robuchon the title of the "Chef of the Century." By 2018, the chef had had a network of 25 restaurants in Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Montreal, Bangkok, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo. Robuchon also hosted cooking shows on television, wrote several books, was the tutor of famous British chef Gordon Ramsey. Reported by PRAVDA 12 hours ago.

Wilbur Ross allegedly swindled $120 million from associates and 'could rank among the biggest grifters in American history,' according to a bombshell Forbes report

Wilbur Ross allegedly swindled $120 million from associates and 'could rank among the biggest grifters in American history,' according to a bombshell Forbes report· *US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross has allegedly swindled associates out of more than $120 million, according to a new bombshell report from Forbes.*
· *The magazine interviewed 21 former colleagues, many of whom say he has a propensity to filch money for himself.*
· *The sum total of all the allegations against him come to $120 million, Forbes said.*

--------------------

According to former colleagues, US Secretary of Wilbur Ross has been known to grab handfuls of Sweet'N Low on his way out of restaurants, to save himself the trouble of having to buy his own.

But that may just be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Ross' impropriety, according to a new bombshell report from Dan Alexander of Forbes.

Forbes spoke to 21 people who know Ross, and found that many claim he wrongly took millions for himself on multiple occasions. The publication estimates that if all of these allegations are true, Ross has bilked associates out of more than $120 million.

And Alexander pulled no punches in summarizing his findings, concluding: "If even half of the accusations are legitimate, the current United States secretary of commerce could rank among the biggest grifters in American history."

A commerce department official called the allegations "petty nonsense," while a statement from Ross himself noted that "the SEC has never initiated any enforcement action against me."

That's not entirely true, considering the SEC fined his firm $2.3 million in 2016. Beyond that, Ross argued that one lawsuit filed against him has been dismissed, failing to mention that it's still in the appeals process.

Alexander's interest in Ross stemmed from the commerce secretary's apparent attempts to mislead Forbes, which the magazine says were an attempt to get himself higher on the publication's ranking of billionaires.

Here's a breakdown of all the allegations outlined in the Forbes report, presented in chronological order. Adding together all of the bolded numbers, you arrive at roughly $120 million.

· *2005 —* A former vice chairman of WL Ross filed a $20 million lawsuit against Ross, alleging the commerce secretary tried to cut him out of his share. They reached a confidential settlement, which reportedly cost *$10 million*.
· *2014-2015* *— *Invesco, the parent company of WL Ross, reported *$43 million* in regulatory and reimbursement expenses, which four former employees say were tied to issues that occurred under Ross.
· *July 2015 *— Ross' former number two filed a *$4 million* lawsuit, alleging the commerce secretary stole his interests. They recently reached a confidential settlement.
· *August 2016 *— As mentioned above, WL Ross agreed to pay the SEC *$2.3 million* after allegations that the firm defrauded an misled investors. The company settled without admitting wrongdoing.
· *August 2016 *— When the SEC announced its fine, it also revealed that the WL Ross paid back *$11.9 million* it allegedly took from investors, including interest, when Ross was running the firm.
· *December 2016* — A former WL Ross employee sued the company, alleging that Ross "looted" his accounts to the tune of *$3.6 million*.
· *November 2017 *— Three former WL Ross executives sued Ross and their former firm, allegedly they charged *$48 million *in improper fees. Ross says the legal action is "without merit."

5 Best Countries for an Exotic, Affordable Golfing Retirement—Internationalliving.com

Golfers who retire overseas to sunny, good-value locales can indulge their favorite hobby year-round and pay much less than they would in the States. In a new report, the editors at InternationalLiving.com explore five great retirement spots around the world where the golfing is top-notch.

BALTIMORE, Md. (PRWEB) August 07, 2018

“A much-cited advantage—and joy—of retirement is being able to spend your days as you see fit, indulging in your favorite passions, such as golf,” says International Living’s Executive Editor Jennifer Stevens. “That can prove to be a prohibitively expensive pastime in North America, but in the right places overseas, you can play a round for a fraction of the price back home.

“If sun-washed fairways, perfectly groomed greens, and chilled cocktails at the nineteenth hole bar after a leisurely round feature in your retirement fantasy, then you need to look for the retirement spots worldwide that offer great, and affordable, golf.”

International Living’s report delves into five locales for a great golfing retirement—Costa Rica, Portugal, Thailand, Mexico, and Ireland—each offering a different appeal.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica draws tourists from around the world who come to enjoy its golden-sand beaches, rainforests teeming with exotic life, and intoxicating culture. And, as the winner of the Global Retirement Index 2018, it draws plenty of expats seeking a better retirement and the laidback Pura Vida lifestyle.

But if you’re a keen golfer, there’s another reason to enjoy this Central American paradise. Costa Rica is an ideal spot for both the novice and advanced golfer. Not only are the conditions of the courses exceptional, but—compared to prices in the States—golf here is a bargain. Most green fees are well under $100, and if you live here, the rates can be even cheaper.

The larger resort courses, located in the northern Guanacaste region, are geared for the experienced golfer, and they come with pricier green fees. Courses centered around the capital, San José, are better suited for novice golfers.

Hacienda Pinilla, situated in Guanacaste, and minutes from the Pacific-coast beach town of Tamarindo, is a top priority for any golf enthusiast in Costa Rica.

One of a few hundred courses in the world that is certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, which encourages golf courses to be environmentally friendly, this 18-hole championship course hosts many national tournaments.

A couple can enjoy a rewarding retirement in Tamarindo on $2,500 a month.

Portugal

Portugal’s southernmost region, the Algarve, is known for its craggy cliffs, Atlantic beaches, whitewashed fishing villages and countless golf resorts.

Originally conceived in the 1980s as a world-class golfing venue, the resort town of Vilamoura offers elegant hotels, fine restaurants, and a large marina in addition to the pristine Praia da Falésia beach.

As one of Europe's best golfing destinations, Vilamoura offers a host of championship courses—the perfect spot for an enthusiastic golfer. There are six challenging courses in the Vilamoura Resort area, including the championship Victoria Golf Course, the Millennium Golf Course, the Pinhal Golf Course, and the Laguna Golf Course.

In the Algarve, a couple can live a fulfilling retirement on $2,400, or less.

Thailand

With more than 250 courses scattered throughout Thailand, it has fast become a golfer’s heaven. In fact, Thailand is riding high on the back of a golf-tourism explosion—a major boon for the country.

The resort city of Hua Hin, set on the Gulf of Thailand, has been a summer refuge for Thai kings and aristocracy since the 1920s. It’s the country’s original beach getaway.

But these days it’s a popular golfing area, too, with a huge selection of courses including the first-ever 18-hole course in Asia. Due to the competitive green fees, every golfer can enjoy the quality golf on offer.

Black Mountain Hua Hin is a championship course considered one of the most challenging in the country. It has won copious accolades and caters to players of all levels. The course is located just a few miles away from the center of Hua Hin.
Off the course, you can enjoy white-sand beaches lined with palm trees and seaside restaurants specializing in seafood.

Here, a couple can live well on $2,000 per month.

Mexico

On Mexico’s Riviera Maya you’ll find a couple dozen golf courses, many created by top designers like Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Robert Trent Jones. They are usually on the grounds of the large resorts in this region—standouts include El Camaleon Mayakoba, Vidanta, and Bahia Principe. You don’t have to be staying at the resort to play. There are also country clubs.

This region has a great climate year-round, similar to Florida and perfect for golf. It also has the added benefit of being close to the U.S.—a flight to Miami is just over an hour.

The major towns in this area—where the golf courses are located—include Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Puerto Morelos, and Tulum. It’s about an hour and 20 minutes’ drive from the international airport in Cancún to Tulum, with all those other towns in between. So, wherever you happen to live you can easily reach any of the golf courses.

A monthly budget for a couple in Cancún runs at $2,000 per month.

Ireland

Lists of the top places to play golf consistently rank courses in Ireland among the world’s best. Home to 300 golf courses, it’s not surprising Ireland has many famous golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, and Paul McGinley.

Many courses here are laid out in classic style, “links,” which is marked by a seaside location and built on naturally undulating land. Another factor is the beautiful green countryside.

One of the best places to base yourself for golf in Ireland is Lahinch, a small seaside village on County Clare’s northwest coast. It’s a vacation resort and a surfing center, too. But golfers love its finely crafted links course.

The cost of living in Ireland can be a lot more affordable than you might think. In rural areas, rent on a two-bedroom property typically starts at less than $600 a month and utilities usually run about $100 a month.

With Uberall, customers can manage their business locations and monitor customer reviews in a single, centralized platform

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) August 07, 2018

Uberall, Inc., the location marketing solution for businesses competing to attract and win local brick-and-mortar customers, today announced a new collaboration with TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site. The collaboration enables integration of TripAdvisor with the Engage product on the Uberall Location Marketing Cloud allowing customers to monitor their TripAdvisor reviews across all of their locations at once.

“TripAdvisor offers the world’s largest selection of travel listings, guiding millions of consumers on where to stay, what to do and where to eat,” said Josha Benner, CRO and Co-founder of Uberall, Inc. “Regardless of a company’s size, per location reputation is everything. We are excited to provide our users with access to their TripAdvisor listings, allowing them to monitor reviews – ultimately safeguarding customer loyalty.”

Uberall empowers businesses to maximize their digital brand footprint while driving new and existing customers directly to their doors. Its flagship Location Marketing Cloud solution creates a consistent, engaging brand ecosystem, connecting businesses with consumers at the precise moment they are ready to buy. Through the Uberall Location Marketing Cloud, and the brand-new TripAdvisor integration, businesses can track, monitor and evaluate their online reputation for each of their locations on TripAdvisor, empowering them to respond to customer reviews in real-time and hyper-locally. Uberall customers will receive access to their TripAdvisor reviews from the past three years.

Uberall was founded to bridge the gap between online search and in-store purchases. In today’s digital world, 88% of all consumers first search for products and services locally online before purchasing in-store. If a business does not have a consistent, rich, engaging digital brand footprint and a positive compelling reputation, buyers will never know they exist—nor will they trust the available information or the business. The Uberall solution provides a consistent, accurate online presence and ecosystem that helps capture new business and support revenue growth.

"Millions of travelers turn to TripAdvisor each month to read reviews and gather hotel, restaurant, and activity recommendations for their next vacation,” said Evan Becker, Head of Restaurant Commerce, TripAdvisor. Luke Johnson among bidders for collapsed Gaucho chain Hospitality mogul Luke Johnson has emerged as one of the bidders for steak restaurant chain Gaucho, after the group went into administration last month.

Johnson, who is currently chair of Patisserie Valerie, is among a small number of prospective buyers which also includes buyout firm Carlyle and investor Aurelius Equity Opportunities, Sky News reported.

His investment career has spanned several household names in the hospitality and leisure industry, including Pizza Express and Giraffe.

Johnson was also chair of Gaucho from April 2016 until November last year, when he was replaced by former Asda chief executive Paul Mason.

Gaucho's sale is being overseen by Deloitte, which will seek to find a new owner for the core chain of restaurants after former advisers KPMG were unable to sell the larger group, which included the Cau brand. All Cau restaurants have now closed.

Other bidders previously tied to the process included restaurateur Hugh Osmond, Johnson's former Pizza Express business partner. However Osmond is not understood to be an active bidder in the current phase.

Meanwhile Gaucho's former owner Equistone Partners, which paid £100m for a cut of the business in 2016, is not thought to be trying to buy it back at this stage.

Raising Cane’s crew members working in over 370 locations in 23 states on April 10 of this year raised $75,000 for Lemonade Day through the sales of lemonade drinks.

DALLAS, and HOUSTON (PRWEB) August 07, 2018

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, the Louisiana-based restaurant company known for its ONE LOVE® quality chicken finger meals, turned lemonade into cash for a worthy cause. With the enthusiastic participation of Raising Cane’s crew members working in over 370 locations in 23 states on April 10 of this year, this entrepreneurial restaurant chain and its loyal, lemonade-loving customers raised $75,000 for Lemonade Day.

Raising Cane’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer Todd Graves, alongside the company’s restaurant support office team, presented the donation check to Lemonade Day National President Steven Gordon in Dallas recently. Graves helped to bring Lemonade Day to Louisiana in 2011. Since then, Raising Cane’s restaurant operators and crewmembers have been actively involved in supporting and promoting Lemonade Day. Graves and Raising Cane’s have been supporters of Lemonade Day for more than eight years. Graves was co-founder of Lemonade Day Louisiana in his home state, which to date has had nearly 100,000 kids participate. Since that time, Raising Cane’s has partnered with several Lemonade Day programs in cities across the country. Earlier this year, Raising Cane’s announced a national partnership with Lemonade Day to help grow participation and bring Lemonade Day to communities in which it had never been before by providing kids easy access to Lemonade Day’s digital workbooks, made possible through this unique partnership.

Lemonade Day, a national non-profit youth entrepreneurship program, teaches kids skills that will serve them for life through the experience of starting their own lemonade business. Kids can register for free to participate in Lemonade Day with support from an adult mentor. Lemonade Day entrepreneurs are encouraged to spend some, save some and share some of their lemonade business profits with a cause that matters to them after paying back their investor. Lemonade Day is more than one day in one place — the 2018 “Lemonade Season” started in April and continues through late summer in the United States and Canada. Lemonade Day has a goal of expanding to 84 licensed markets in 2019, with a five-year goal of securing 250,000 mentors to support young lemonade business owners in 200 licensed markets in North America by 2023.

Raising Cane’s restaurants donated $1 for every lemonade drink purchased on April 10. The company also placed a mini lemonade stand in participating restaurants with marketing materials about the Lemonade Day fundraiser and prepared an information flyer with instructions for customers to go online and register youth for free to participate in Lemonade Day to give them a taste of the sweet success that comes with owning their own business.

“During the eight years that we have been involved with Lemonade Day, we’ve seen firsthand how effective this program is in introducing kids to business and entrepreneurship, and I always liked that the program teaches kids to also give back to their communities,” said Graves. “I am thrilled that Cane’s is now a national partner and can support Lemonade Day’s great work in teaching tomorrow’s leaders about financial literacy, youth entrepreneurship and so much more.”

Graves’s entrepreneurial journey started with operating a lemonade stand in his front yard in Baton Rouge. Now, 35 years later, Graves sells lemonade at more than 380 Raising Cane’s restaurants around the world. Creating the opportunity for other kids to be inspired by business and igniting a desire to run and own a business is exactly why he is so passionate about Lemonade Day.

“Raising Cane’s is a perfect match for Lemonade Day on many levels. I want to sincerely thank Todd Graves and his entire team and all the ‘Caniacs’ for supporting Lemonade Day and our mission to equip kids today with skills they can apply in their own careers and business ventures. With this tremendous support and commitment from entrepreneurs like Todd and his entire Raising Cane’s organization, Lemonade Day is well-equipped to continue making a positive difference for kids,” Gordon commented.

Gordon noted that he is especially thankful to Megan Hernandez, brand manager with Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. Gordon credited Hernandez for being instrumental in organizing this inaugural fundraiser with Lemonade Day.

“Raising Cane’s is looking forward to continuing this partnership with Lemonade Day. Our Raising Cane’s crew members enjoy being part of such an amazing program that teaches kids important business and life skills. We are excited to expand on the success of the 2018 program and are looking forward to helping kids across the country learn about and participate in Lemonade Day in 2019!” Hernandez said.

THE MOBILE PAYMENTS REPORT: Key strategies that wallet providers can implement to break from disappointing growth

$

This is a preview of a research report from Business Insider Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service. To learn more about Business Insider Intelligence, click here.

In the US, the in-store mobile wallet space is becoming increasingly crowded. Most customers have an option provided by their smartphone vendor, like Apple, Android, or Samsung Pay. But those are often supplemented by a myriad of options from other players, ranging from tech firms like PayPal, to banks and card issuers, to major retailers and restaurants.

With that proliferation of options, one would expect to see a surge in adoption. But that’s not the case — though Business Insider Intelligence projects that US in-store mobile payments volume will quintuple in the next five years, usage is consistently lagging below expectations, with estimates for 2019 falling far below what we expected just two years ago.

As such, despite promising factors driving gains, including the normalization of NFC technology and improved incentive programs to encourage adoption and engagement, it’s important for wallet providers and groups trying to break into the space to address the problems still holding mobile wallets back. These issues include customer satisfaction with current payment methods, limited repeat purchasing, and consumer confusion stemming from fragmentation. But several wallets, like Apple Pay, Starbucks’ app, and Samsung Pay, are outperforming their peers, and by delving into why, firms can begin to develop best practices and see better results.

A new report from Business Insider Intelligence addresses how in-store mobile payments volume will grow through 2021, why that’s below past expectations, and what successful cases can teach other players in the space. It also issues actionable recommendations that various providers can take to improve their performance and better compete.

*Here are some of the key takeaways:*

· US in-store mobile payments will advance steadily at a 40% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to hit $128 billion in 2021. That’s suppressed by major headwinds, though — this is the second year running that Business Insider Intelligence has halved its projected growth rate.
· To power ahead, US wallets should look at pockets of success. Banks, merchants, and tech providers could each benefit from implementing strategies that have worked for early leaders, including eliminating fragmentation, improving the purchase journey, and building repeat purchasing.
· Building multiple layers of value is key to getting ahead. Adding value to the user experience and making wallets as simple and frictionless as possible are critical to encouraging adoption and keeping consumers engaged.

*In full, the report: *

· Sizes the US in-store mobile payments market and examines growth drivers.
· Analyzes headwinds that have suppressed adoption.
· Identifies three strategic changes providers can make to improve their results.
· Evaluates pockets of success in the market.
· Provides actionable insights that providers can implement to improve results.
