Beggar given order that could see him jailed This is Nottingham -- PROLIFIC beggar James Sherriff has been handed an order that could see him sent to prison. The 39-year-old already had begging convictions in Birmingham, Leaminton Spa and Leicester, when he started begging in Nottingham in early 2013. He was arrested on July 11 and appeared before magistrates the following day, receiving a £70 fine. Later the same month and in early August, Sherriff was caught begging on three more occasions, resulting in another arrest and a fine of £50. City centre chief inspector Shaun Ostle, of Community Protection, said: "Mr Sherriff had been witnessed by Police and Community Protection staff standing outside shops and restaurants on Upper Parliament Street, approaching members of the public and walking up to diners sitting outside bars and restaurants across the City Centre, asking for "Any spare change". "His behaviour led to members of the public and shop staff complaining to our officers and staff being forced to ask him to move on several occasions." Sherrif, of no fixed address, appeared at court again on September 5 and was fined a further £100 and handed a two-year Criminal Anti Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO). Breaching could result in a prison sentence. Reported by This is 6 hours ago.
