The Mayor and Council of River Edge approved an ordinance Monday permitting restaurants to offer outdoor dining during warm weather months.
The ordinance, introduced by Councilwoman Kathleen Murphy, permits restaurants to set up tables outside from April 15 through Nov. 30.
During the first reading of the ordinance at the May meeting of the Mayor and Council, stipulations were added to amend the ordinance to read that no outdoor dining be permitted near a parking lot or driveway unless a buffer is installed to protect the diners, and that all tables and chairs not tethered be moved inside after the restaurant has closed every night.
In order to offer dining al fresco, restaurants will have to apply for a permit and pay the associated fee.
