New shopping complex for Kingswood Hull to feature Co-op, restaurants and pub This is Hull and East Riding -- A NEW shopping complex will open in Kingswood later this year, creating around 75 jobs. A large Co-operative store and pharmacy will be among several other new shops and restaurants. The project is expected to be completed by late September. Kingswood Parks Development Company has revealed it is in talks with a number of other companies that have signalled an interest in setting up on the premises, close to Kingswood Health Centre, in School Lane. The Mail understands a new pub could open on the site as well. Kingswood Parks would not confirm exactly how much the project would cost but said it would be a "significant investment". A company spokesman said: "The development of the village centre marks an exciting milestone for the whole surrounding area. With confirmation that the Co-op will occupy the largest of the retail units in the centre and with a pharmacy also coming to one of the units, excitement is really building amongst residents about the rapidly developing area. "The centre will feature a range of other retailers and potentially create approximately 75 jobs - as well as construction jobs." The investment comes as a new primary school is due to open on the Kingswood Parks village centre ahead of the start of term in September. It will operate independently of the city's education authority as an academy. The school will cater for up to 280 pupils and have a 26-place nursery. Daniel Brown, councillor for Kings Park at Hull City Council, said: "People love this area of Hull and I believe this new facility will add greatly to the community here. It is needed. "Constituents have told me they want to see a local shop and a pharmacy so to have those two already confirmed is fantastic news. "I would like to see a new post office move in as well if possible because it would be beneficial to local people. "The idea of restaurants and cafes is a good one and hopefully that can all be sorted. "I understand Kingswood Parks Development Company is in talks with other names and hopefully there will be some more shops confirmed soon. "Most important is the creation of lots of jobs. It is always gratefully received - in any part of the city. "A large number of part time and full time posts will be available and that can only be good news for Kingswood and Hull itself. We are looking forward to when it opens." Kingswood resident Anna Dade, 39, said: "This is great news. This is a really nice area to live but we could always do with more facilities such as this centre. "It seems there are lots of things going on in the area at the moment and that is a good thing. Hopefully we can get some good quality outlets into the centre because I am sure, if that can be achieved, it will become a thriving centre."
